COMMUNITY LIBRARY

BACKGROUND:

RGF is one of the leading independent, nonprofit development organizations, working in India primarily in the areas of education. The RGF came into existence in June 1991. The RGF, in partnership with the Shri Sivasubramaniya Nadar educational and charitable trust (SSN Trust), initiated a scholarship program called “Vidyagyan Scholarship”. The Muslim and dalit girls in UP in the year 2007. The program is being implemented across three district of UP which are Raibarelly, Varanasi and Barabanky. The objective of the program was to reach to the girls from most needy and economically weaker sections of the society. The scholarship aims at enabling the girls to complete their education till class 10th. The HWA has been identified and selected as one of the partner organization supporting RGF in execution of the Vidya Gyan Scholarship.

Major activities: To fulfill the proposed goal of the RGF the following major activities undertaken.

  1. Community library: With the support of R.G.F and Shri Sivasubramaniya Nadar educational and charitable trust (SSN Trust), 6 community libraries is being run in the project area for promoting habit of study among the community. The library is occupied with various informatics books, stories book, personality development books, popular magazines and daily news papers. Daily 25 to 30 people (men, women and children) came in the library and spent their one or two hours with the study materials.
  2.  Visit by chief functionary
  • The Project Director is closely involved in the project activities including the orientation of the coaching teachers, community volunteers and related project staff for the qualitative improvement of the project and the girls associated with the project.
  • The project Director is also working in the project area for the convergence of various government activities and creating the awareness amongst the community leaders, opinion leaders and govt. officials regarding the education and RGF supported activities.
  • The Chief Functionary of the organization is involved in various innovative and supportive measures for the development of the girls and their parent including the interaction with various others activities.
  1. Important activities/events conducted 
  • Mothers of the project girls has participated in a program organized by Union Bank of India in the presence of Chairman of U.B.I. related to the credit linkages of Self Help Groups facilitated by Human Welfare Association.
  • One month Beautician Training program has organized at madarsa Khwaja Garib Nawaj at Rahimpur, Lohta by the UBI and with the facilitation of Human Welfare Association; due to it a number of girls from the project area has participated and trained in the training program. The credit goes to the RGF, because when UBI knows that the RGF is providing coaching and educational support to the girls in the Kashi Vidyapeeth Block, then they decided that they will provide the beautician training (Vocational Course) to the other poor girls who are not in the condition to get this type of costly training. The whole training was free of cost and after that they provided the certificate to the 30 girls from Muslim, Dalit and other Poor community. 

Activities of Learners:

2 Days Training for Library Development:

In the month of August, 2010, 2 days training is organised to develop library by RGF, New Delhi. In this training one librarian and one supporter from all libraries of 3 NGO partners – HWA, MALA and SSK participated. Resource persona Mr. Surendre prashad singh is appointed by RGF New Delhi and also Ms. Shweta Verma is also attained this training on 7th and 8th of August. Through this training it is plane to see reflection in readers of library and the libraries should play lead role in the development. After the completion of the training our librarian planned their development plan and they are working as their planning and time by time follow up programme is organized by librarian in the library.

Workshop on Community Library:

On 13th September, 2010 workshop on community libraries was organized at HWA Resource Centre. In this workshop approximately 100 participates from 3 blocks (Chiraigaon, KVP and Cholapur) participated. The resource person was Noshaba Ji from HWA. The aim of this workshop was to make the community aware about –

  1. How to create interest among the children through short stories, poems, role play, unseen passages, art and craft manner.
  2. Organizing story based competition among the children.
  3. Motivating youths (young girls and boys) for creative works which can be income generating for their future life such Mehandi, Painting, Toymaking, Embroidery, Beautician, Cutting and Tailoring etc.
  4. Providing the training of cooking and fooding.
  5. Providing information on bio diversity among the senior and intellect participants.
  6. Updating newspapers and cuttings related with current affairs, science and technology, new program and policies launch by the government for rural management as such Panchayati Raj, MANREGA, Health and Sanitation etc.
  7. Developing barbarian attitudes among children.
  8.  General attitude development among the children giving various exercise like naming five personalities of various sector as such Gram Panchayat, State policies, Central policies, Games, Science etc.
