Promoting Elementary Schooling in Rural area

Background
Providing the facility of joyful and elementary education to the drop out and non going children of weaker community in the remote area of the PES project field in three blocks of Varanasi as in Chiraigaon, Cholapur and Kashi Vidyapeeth block, the project is going on with the successful running of 15 NFE center, 10 Educational Support Center, 6 Information Center and 6 Vocational training center.
Up to now a total 25 NFE center has been run successfully through which total 3353 children (boys-1711 & girls- 1658) has been mainstreamed. Besides it, in the current session total 2025 children (boys- 993 & girls- 1032) are getting education through 15 NFE centers. With this the project is going on with its pre designed and targeted objectives which are given below…
- 90% children of the project areas are mainstreamed with formal school education system.
- School dropout rate is decreased by 40%.
- Education among young girls is promoted.
- Status of government schools is improved.
- Community participation in schooling enhanced.
For achieve these objectives, the activities which has been done in this quarter are given under following terms.
Successful conduction of NFE Centres with Result of Annual Examination:
15 NFE centers are being run successfully in the 15 villages of the project area providing the qualitative education to the target groups.
In the session of July 09- June 10 a total of 2025 children in which 1032 were girls and 993 were boys who got education and gave their examination at 15 NFE centers.
In the new session (2010-11) total fresh enrollment of the children is742 in which 383 is girls and 359 is boys.
Education Mainstreaming of the children:
In this quarter besides enrolling and teaching the children, the staff made their important role to mainstream the children of NFE in the government school or government recognized school. In such a way 907 children (Boys- 423 and Girls- 484) became mainstreamed in various classes in various recognized schools.
Community Meeting at Panchayat Level:
In the sequence of brining awareness and to sensitize the rural people for RTE Act,2009 and child labor is restaurant / dhaba 15 community level meeting was organized in 15 various villages the project area. In these meetings not only the common community but also the prominent figure as Pradhan, B.D.C., teachers, SHG members etc participated. During the training RTE Act, 2009 was discuss elaborately among the community.
A workshop on RTE Act 09:
A workshop on RTE Act 09 was organized on 4th September 2010 by HWA at its resource center to sensitize the staff and other volunteers of the intervened villages. During the workshop, it was discussed whether this act was rational or not for the general rural people. It was also discussed that how the target group would be benefited with the features of this act. The role and responsibilities of teachers and parents were identified and it was decided how to aware them for it. In this way total 100 (65 female and 35 male) participants participated in it.
Orientation on new project From Education to Sustainability:
On 28th September 2010 an orientation program was organized at HWA resource center. The aim of this orientation was to explain about the new project Education to Sustainability. Dr. Rajnikant explained all features and key terms of the project to the all staff. Total 80 participants got information and knowledge about new project
Workshop on RTE Act 09: Problems and Challenges:
A very grand workshop on RTE Act 09 was organized at BHU campus in social science faculty in association with HWA on 30th September 2010. The chief guest was Prof. Laxman Chaturvedi, Vice Chancellor G.G.D Central University Bilaspur Chhattisgarh. The main speaker was Prof. B.N. Juyal, Gandhian Institute of Studies,Rajghat, Varanasi. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mishra, the coordinator of social work department. During the session all expressed their allegation and views for RTE Act 09. Dr. Rajnikant expressed his experience and views with this Act. In this way total 125 participants of various social work student, teacher, professors, lecturers and other project staff participated. The various print media and electronic media covered the program.
