 Project title: Promoting awareness and use of Oral Rehydration Thearpy(ORT) and Zinc as treatment of Childhood diarrhea among public health providers in uttar pradesh

Participation of HWA’s project management team (Accountant, BCs, DCs, and chief functionary in induction cum Training of Trainers (ToT) organized by WJCF):  Two days induction cum training of trainers was organized by CHAI on 11th October, 2013 at SSK in Lucknow, in which the core staff (DC & BCs) of HWA participated. BCs mean of the pre-test was 7.5 and post test mean was 9.9.  Overall the training has been meaningful to understand the value of the project.

Organize training of all BCs as per WJCF guidelines shared during the Induction cum ToT: One day training and orientation program was organized at HWA resource centre on 19th October, 2013 as per the guidelines shared during the induction cum ToT

Conduction of two hour orientation programs on diarrhoea management for all FLWs at sector / PHC level meetings:  BCs has been indulging for organizing two hour orientation programs on diarrhea management for all FLWs at sector/ PHC level meetings as per their scheduled job responsibilities. The training program was started from the month of Nov, 2013 and within one month 6 batches training was organized and 187 ASHAs were oriented and trained on the issue.

Mandated daily visits of BCs to FLWs to review refresh and reinforce the key messages on diarrhoea management with Zinc + ORS; discuss and solve bottlenecks, if any.: The BCs used to visit the field as well as FLWs to review refresh and reinforce the key messages on diarrhoea management with Zinc + ORS.  Till date 1812 ASHAs, 416 AWW, ANM 205 has been visited as daily visits of BCs.

Participation of BCs in sector/ PHC level meetings of FLWs for message reinforcement, performance review, logging issues related to supply and sharing of success stories/ good practices of diarrhoea management to motivate the PHC team:  Total 126 meetings in sector/PHC level meetings of FLWs have been organized by the project covering 2790 FLWs of 8 blocks. They also participated in no of 108 block level meetings covering 1015 participants during it. 

Participation of BCs in community forums / events such as Gram Sabhas, RI days and VHSC meetings or trainings:  Till date BCs participated in 147 meetings of VHND covering 1579 people in 8 blocks of the project area. In the same manner they participated in 54 meetings of VHSC disseminating key message on diarreha to more than 450 people.

Visits for BCs and FLWs for supportive supervision, understanding of ground level issues and logging it at District and Division level forums by the BCs as per WJCF guidelines: Till date the BCs participated in no of 18 meetings at Tahsil level on Tahsil day interacting with 729 people.

Supportive supervisory visits for BCs and FLWs by the DC as per WJCF guidelines (for supportive supervision, understanding of ground level issues and logging it at District and Tehsil level forums): As a supportive supervisory visit for BCs and FLWs, DC visited no of 16 meetings of Tahsil on the day of Tahsil diwas

Organise monthly District level meetings for each District Team by their respective DC: Till date total 9 meetings has been organized by the DC at district level at HWA resource centre.

Quarterly Review and Learning Meeting (QRLM) for all DCs and BCs: It was organized on 21.09.2013 at HWA resource centre in which the BCs, DC and PD participated and did review of their three months work progress and challenges.

From Jan-14-April-14 total no. of 1810 ASHA and 95 other FLW has been visited through 3 BCs in 8 blocks of Varanasi district refreshing and reinforcing the key messages on diarrhea management with Zinc and ORS.

From Jan to April 2014 total number of 22 meetings has been organized with the PHC team for motivating them. From Jan-14-April, 2014 total 2025 FLWs has received refresher training.

No. of 61 community forums/events such as Village Health and Nutrition Day (VHNDs) meetings attended and participated by DC in 8 blocks of Varanasi giving preference to the sensitive villages of the blocks giving message on diarrhea management to the community and FLWs.

Total number of 8 meetings at block level and tahsil level has been attended by the DC raising the ground level issues doing advocacy with district and division level forum highlighting the major problems of ORS and zinc procurement to ASHAs

From Jan 14- April 14 total number of 8 sector meeting and 8 PHC level meeting was being attended and participated by DC giving message reinforcement, performance review, sharing of success stories / good practices of diarrhoea management.

Total number of 4 monthly meetings was organized by the DC with project team with sharing the issues and challenges of the blocks and districts regarding the diarrhea management program. The minutes are attached.

On 29th March 2014, HWA organized QRLM at its resource centre with the project staff reviewing the last quarter work and job responsibilities of the staff and project implementation.

Input Activities (Scope of Work) Deliverable
The Quarterly Project Report (QPR) based on WJCF format covering mainly the activities and deliverables listed below.

Organise sector meeting for AWW and PHC level meeting per district once a month From Jan 14- April 14 total number of 8 sector meeting and 8 PHC level meeting was being attended and participated by DC giving message reinforcement, performance review, sharing of success stories / good practices of diarrhoea management.
