Education To Sustainability

HWA with the support DACSHER and Terre des homes, Germany successfully implemented the project titled Promoting Elementary Schooling in Varanasi District from 2005 to 2010. The project was implemented in three blocks of Varanasi District, Chiraigaon, Cholapur and Kashi Vidyapeeth.

The second phase of the project continued with the support of DACHSER and Terre des homes, Germany and commenced from October 2010. It consolidated the gains of the previous phase and extended to include the component of environment to pave way for sustainability. Thus concrete efforts during the second phase of the project would be to move from ‘Education to Sustainability’ by consolidating all the gains and by introducing new elements of rural technical trainings and village social forestry. The project is implemented by two partners in Uttar Pradesh PACE and HWA. The following report would highlight the activities implemented by PACE in the reporting period October 2010- December 2010.

Providing the supportive coaching to the girls of rural area, the last session of 10 Educational Support Center has been successful. In this last academic session total 221 students (66 boys and 155 girls) had appeared in the exam and passed with glorious percentage and their break up is given under below in table form

Vocational Training Center

In the sequence of providing and making girls’ professional with the pattern of learning and earning, 6 vocational training center is being run effectively  in  three block of the project area. At present they are receiving the vocational training in various trades such as stitching, glass painting, beauty clinic and painting and textile. Apart from vocational training, trainees were imparted value added learning related to their rights and social responsibilities. In the new session of July, 2010 total 280 new girls are enrolled in other remaining 5 vocational training center in tailoring and cutting and embroidery.
